Modern Slavery is happening here in our city. In 2017 the National Crime Agency recorded that there were 1,608 potential victims of Modern Slavery found in London (Metropolitan Police Area).
It is becoming more of a live issue for Parishes in the across the Diocese.
Modern Slavery in London ranges from sex trafficking to domestic servitude, to forced labour, particularly those recruited from the street homeless population and newly arrived migrants seeking work.
Bishop of London Lent Appeal 2019
The 2019 Diocese of London Lent Appeal on Modern Slavery, builds on the work of the Clewer Initiative, part of the national church’s approach to eradicating Modern Slavery which was launched by Archbishop Justin in October 2017.
