What is Universal Credit, how will it impact your parish and how can you respond?

Capital Mass are 2-hour interactive, practical training sessions about Universal Credit. Universal Credit is the biggest change in the welfare system for generations. The training is aimed at anyone working for or volunteering with a church in the Diocese and is FREE.

Over the next 3 years, Universal Credit will affect about 600,000 people in the Diocese of London, whether in or out of work. This means that Universal Credit will affect every congregation as well as guests at Foodbanks and similar ministries.

How to know whether you should attend.

If you answer yes to any of the following questions - then we’d suggest you need to be with us.

Do you have anyone in your parish:

  • bringing up children on low income?
  • out of work?
  • on low wages or zero hour contracts?
  • receiving housing benefit?
  • unable to work due to illness or disability?

We will cover:

This will be informal, informative session with plenty of time for questions and discussion. And as ever with our events, we promise good coffee, tea, cake and snacks.

We will look at what the changes mean and how the church can respond.

  • What is ‘Universal Credit’ and when is it being introduced?
  • How will it affect those in my community?
  • How might we respond as a compassionate church to prepare & support?

  • Practical tools you can use in your church or community setting
